A rank denotes an officer's authority, responsibility, and experience. Ranks are classed into one of three groups for both Marines and Fleet; Flag Officer, Commissioned Officer, and Enlisted Personnel, which is further split into Senior Enlisted (Non-Commissioned Officer) and Junior Enlisted. The higher up the scale an officer is, the more authority and responsibility one holds.
